the National labor relations act talks about how unions can get together and strike...

But what would happen if like, UPS went on strike? companys everywhere would go under if they used them. Cant congress prohibit strikes from super influential unions like that?

Congress no President yes but the Executive office rarely gets involved. Remember UPS drivers and line workers are replaceable especially in this economy. So it is a very risky strategic move for the union to call a strike b/c while they are on strike replacement workers can come and do the job. If the contract between employer and union expires during the strike all of the replacement workers now may have permanent jobs. Whereas with teachers they aren't as easily replaced b/c the new workers would all need to have teaching certificates, not as common.

The other side of this concept is that there is generally a negotiation period between the company and the union so the company can weigh the union demands vs the potential loss of business and perhaps come to a mutually beneficial agreement wherein there is compromise on both sides. ME
